The Purple Flag aims to elevate the standard and enhance the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 5pm and 5am.
Bristol takes great pride in being a distinguished Purple Flag bearer, which serves as a testament to its continuous efforts in cultivating a vibrant, inclusive, and safe nightlife scene. Having been one of the pioneering cities to achieve Purple Flag Status in 2010, Bristol remains committed to upholding this recognition during it’s 13th consecutive year. The Purple Flag criteria encompass various aspects such as cleanliness, safety, diversity, accessibility and collaborative efforts.
This prestigious accolade provides reassurance to individuals planning a night out in our city, knowing that high standards are maintained. Bristol’s annual accreditation from the Association of town and City Management is a testament to the unwavering dedication of a collaborative partnership, spearheaded by Bristol City Centre BID and Bristol City Council. Through Bristol City Centre BID concerted endeavours, Bristol consistently meet and exceed national standards of excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy, fostering a thriving and enjoyable experience for all.
Notably the introduction of Purple Flag has served as a catalyst for fostering stronger partnerships in managing the night-time economy. Quarterly night-time self-assessments have become a permanent fixture, proving invaluable in addressing issues and identifying new opportunities for enhancing the city’s offerings to both residents and visitors. These assessments allow for continuous improvement and ensure an enjoyable experience for all who frequent Bristol’s city centre.
