Gloucestershire Cricket was established in 1870 is one of 18 professional cricket clubs in the UK. Their home turf is the Seat Unique Stadium, just off Gloucester Road in the Bishopston area of North Bristol, where over the summer season they regularly play matches that are a great day out for all the family.

The club has a strong focus on developing young talent and take pride in their Gloucestershire Cricket Academy which has developed some fine professionals such as Chris Dent, David Payne, Jack Taylor, Matt Taylor and Miles Hammond who all graduated from the Academy to the first team.

Bristol regularly hosts international cricket matches, thanks to recent redevelopment of facilities at the ground, including many One-Day Internationals and was also a host city for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The Bristol Pavilion offers state-of-the-art media and hospitality facilities perfect for both match day and non-match day events. On top of that, The Pavilion houses some of the best views in the ground from right behind the bowler’s arm.

Bristol’s Cricket Legacy

Bristol has a strong cricketing history, including being the birthplace of the legendary W.G Grace, who was born in the Downend area of East Bristol and went on to become one of the first genuine sport stars of a generation. There is a plaque on the side of the house he lived in at Victoria Square in Clifton.

Also, in 1899 a 13-year-old schoolboy, A. E. J. Collins, achieved what was, for 116 years, the highest-ever recorded individual score in cricket. He scored 628 not out at Clifton College before going on to serve and give his life at the battle of Ypres in WWI.

Brunel’s SS Great Britain transported the very first ‘All England’ cricket team to tour Australia, in 1861. Something which sparked one of sport’s biggest rivalries; The Ashes.
