Pastan

Enjoy a range of delicious pasta dishes and delicacies; all made with the finest plant-based ingredients. Popular dishes include their vegan take on carbonara - make sure you leave room for their Biscoff-filled doughnuts!

Pieminister 

Bristol-born Pieminister has six plant-based numbers in their popular pie and patty range, which, whether you're vegan or not, are pretty irresistible. Among the bunch there's the Mooless Moo, a jackfruit 'steak' and ale pie; and the Kevin (named after Kevin Keegan – cockney rhyming slang for vegan) with mushroom, tomato, red wine and thyme.  

Order a Mother Earth: a vegan pie on a bed of mash with garden peas, finished with a parsnip and kale fritter.

COR

You'll be able to find a dedicated and ever-changing vegan menu on COR's website, with a multitude of options for when you visit, with recent options including burnt Treviso radicchio with clementine, fennel and Valencian almonds, or wild mushrooms on toast with oloroso sherry.

The Granary

Many of the dips, flatbreads and small plates at The Granary are vegan - choose from cracked wheat & cumin pilaf with chestnuts, dates, raisins and capers, or chopped spinach salad with kale, tamari seed dressing and raw mushroom. There's also the option of their plant-based mains cooked over fire, whether you opt for Delica pumpkin & fava bean kofta with mint & coriander chutney and coconut yoghurt, or slow cooked aubergine with makhani dahl, preserved green tomatoes and crispy buckwheat.

Yakinori

Aiming to be as colourful and varied as their regular menu, Yakinori have created a fantastic vegan menu with an abundance of options for all courses. The Kabocha pumpkin & tofu bento is not to be missed!

Cargo Cantina

Combining quality local ingredients with carefully sourced Mexican produce, Cargo Cantina also make sure to have plenty of options for those following a vegan or gluten free diet. From seasonal vegetable tacos to a range of plant-based snacks and nachos, there's also the option to order their vegan taco sharing feast for £17.50 per person.

The Strawberry Thief

As well as having a great selection of local and international beers, The Strawberry Thief team also pride themselves on a menu of seasonal treats, with vegan options ranging from curry to burgers.

Talwar Express

Enjoy Indian street food dishes including chaat, pani puri, biryani and various regional specialities, inspired by the cuisines of the southern states of India.

The Coconut Tree

Get stuck into the plant-based Roots menu at Sri Lankan street food restaurant The Coconut Tree, which you can find on Gloucester Road and in Clifton. Popular plant-based menu items include their moreish Fat Sister pumpkin curry, Parippu Dahl with red lentils in coconut milk, hot battered mushrooms and unripe mango in a coconut sauce.

KIBOU

This Japanese restaurant in Clifton Village has a mouthwatering range, including a vegan version of their famous Volcano roll: a 10-piece futomaki sushi roll, stuffed with red pepper and avocado, dipped in tempura batter, fried and drizzled in tempura sauce. Other tasty meat-free options include, a 20-piece vegan sushi sharing platter, veggie ramen, a new pumpkin korokke vegan katsu curry, and a deliciously smoky chargrilled aubergine bao bun with sweet miso sauce.

Izakaya

With options including fresh vegan sushi, veggie gyoza, kitsune soup udon and poke bowls, Izakaya have a range of meat-free dishes for you to choose from at their restaurants in Clifton and the city centre.

  • If you’re looking for a lunch option near Bristol University and the Triangle, Don Don sell excellent bento and don boxes; try the tempura silken tofu with walnut miso sauce or their root vegetable tempura.

Four Wise Monkeys

Perfect for pan Asian food, Four Wise Monkeys have excellent cocktails and Asian-inspired dishes, including their smoked tofu katsu sando with vegan kewpie mayo, bulldog sauce and shredded cabbage (also available as part of their £10 lunch deal on weekdays). 

  • Sister restaurant Seven Lucky Gods do a similar menu of Izakaya-inspired dishes, with lunchtime vegan bento bowls, kimchi fries, panko aubergine sushi and Sichuan fried cauliflower all popular plant-based options.

Pho

With an extensive range of vegan Vietnamese dishes, you're spoilt for choice at Pho, whether you're in the mood for from summer rolls and salads, or some mouth-tingling noodles and curries.

Bambalan

Choose from a range of dishes and sides at this colourful city centre diner, from vegan burgers or small plates of falafels and fried cauliflower, plus their vegan pizza options of Mediterranean roasted veg, or Imam Bayildi (charcoal roasted aubergine pine nuts, pomegranate, parsley, red onion, vegan roasted garlic yoghurt and harissa).

  • Sister venue Hyde & Co. is a totally vegan cocktail bar, using plant-based alternatives for all of their concoctions.

Pizza on the Park

There's more plant-based pizza action over at this Park Street restaurant. You can swap to vegan cheese on any of their thin and crispy Roman-style pizzas. 

  • Pizzarova specialises in handmade sourdough pizza. You'll find restaurants on Gloucester Road and Park Street. Build-your-own extremely moreish pizza with the option of vegan cheese and call ahead to check if they've got gluten-free dough prepared.

Cafe Napolita

This family-run Italian restaurant in St Werburghs clearly marks the vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu, with plantbased options including caponata, kalamata olive ragu, and handmade ravioli with artichoke, asparagus, black truffle, sage and butternut squash sauce.

Burger Theory

Almost all of Burger Theory's huge menu is available to have vegan, from burgers to loaded fries. The Mean Bean is a particular hit, with a beetroot and walnut patty, chipotle mayo, American cheese, jalapeño & gherkin relish, pickled onion ring and BBQ sauce.

Three Brothers Burgers

One of the city centre's most popular dining spots, Three Brothers Burgers have a dedicated vegan menu with plenty of options, from burgers to chilli fries. Don't miss their £7.50 lunch deal, which includes a burger, fries and soft drink.

Racks Bar & Kitchen

A favourite for watching sports, enjoy the match with delicious vegan eats at Racks. They've got top pub grub on the menu including vegan fish and chips, the Not Dog, a Moving Mountains burger, nachos, dirty fries, salads and pizzas.

No.4 Clifton Village

Indulge in a completely vegan afternoon tea at No.4 Clifton Village. They serve up a delightful assortment of miniature sandwiches, freshly baked scones with vegan buttercream and jam, almond Victoria sponge cake, chocolate dipped strawberries and lemon sponge cake.

The Real Greek

Take your pick from a range of vegan mezze, souvlaki and other dishes from the dedicated vegan menu at The Real Greek in Cabot Circus. Take advantage of their vegan lunch deal, available from Monday to Friday. 

No.1 Harbourside

Part of a small family of local, sustainable restaurants (the others are The Canteen and The Old Market Assembly) this lively waterfront independent includes tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes on its healthy, seasonal menu. Their drinks list includes a few vegan options, too.  The menu at Canteen is entirely vegetarian and vegan, with dishes including broccoli arancini with beetroot pesto and pickled fennel.  

Fi Real 

This family-run restaurant in Old Market is all about Caribbean-style vegan and veggie food. Think jerk tofu, ital stew, fried dumplings and spicy kale, which go down perfectly with one of the fresh homemade juices.

Root

This innovative veggie-focused restaurant in Wapping Wharf is not strictly vegan but makes vegetables the heroes of the menu, and puts meat and fish on the side. This small-plates menu includes beetroot with grilled radicchio, orange and hazelnut and crispy cauliflower and shiitake. The restaurant gets rave reviews from guests who delight in the chefs having fun with food. 

  • If you're looking for a quick bite to eat in Wapping Wharf, check out LOKI POKÉ for vegan poké bowls and Biblos for tasty wraps. Herbivore Vegan Deli is the place to stock up on plantbased pantry essentials, and their deli counter also sells toasties, salads and sweet treats. If you're after fast food, VeBurger sell vegan burgers, loaded fries and more.

Suyuan

Suyuan is a purely vegetarian restaurant on Queen Square, specialising in Southern Chinese cuisine. Make sure to order their Yu Xiang Qie Long - braised aubergine with mixed pepper, potato and homemade fragrant sauce. Another favourite is their dumplings, filled with tofu, carrot, celery & wood ear mushrooms.

Pepenero at Beer Emporium

This pizza pop-up at King Street pub Beer Emporium features a broad selection of vegan options. All of Pepe Nero's pizza bases, tomato sauce, toppings and vegetables are freshly made and organic and the whole range of ingredients – dairy, dairy free, any meat or meat free - are prepared using different utensils such as knives and chopping boards, to avoid any kind of cross-contamination in respect of any religion, ethical reasons, intolerance or simply a lifestyle choice.

Oowee Vegan

Masters of concocting fully stacked 'dirty burgers' and loaded fries, Oowee Vegan sells a range of vegan fast food, made from meat imitation products. 

Koocha Mezze Bar

Based on Cheltenham Road, this vegan mezze bar showcases plant-based Persian cuisine with some extra flourishes, including eggless kookoo, crispy oyster wings with saffron aioli, and spicy Lebanese-style potato. All dishes are designed to share and go down well with one of their house gin cocktails. They also do an excellent brunch and a Sunday roast dinner. Order their vegan take on shakshuka with wilted spinach, shawarma mushrooms, grilled aubergine slices, vine tomatoes, fava bean and dill scrambled ackee, bata harra and zatar bread. 

VX Bristol 

This Bedminster outlet proves that ‘a vegan lifestyle doesn’t have to be boring’. Along with its older London sister, VX claims to be the UK’s first chain of cruelty-free food shops. Order diner-style dishes such as vegan burgers, hot dogs, burritos and Vego milkshakes.

There are plenty of plantbased options, and even some cooks specialising in vegan or meat-free dishes. Have a browse and see what you fancy!

St Nicholas Market

You're never short of options in St Nick's, whether it's spicy noodles with tofu from Chilli Daddy, chickpea stew from the Moroccan stall, fried cauliflower with a spicy sauce from Daily Noodles, or plantbased pies from Pieminister. Royce Rolls also do a broad selection of veggie and vegan sandwiches and snacks, while next door at Spice Up Your Life, you can pick from a range of veggie curries and sides.

Eat a Pitta

Some say they make the best falafel in Bristol…go judge for yourself and pick up a rainbow-coloured salad box from one of their stalls (you’ll find them at St Nicholas Market, Gloucester Road, Broadmead and Queens Road). With a fully vegan menu (minus the tahini) you can order it all.

  • Jack The Falafel on Gloucester Road, or Edna's Kitchen in Castle Park also sell great seasonal salads, falafel and vegan treats. 

Cafes

Cafe Kino

Cafe Kino is an ethical, community-focused vegan and vegetarian cooperative café in Stokes Croft offering delicious wholesome, ethically sourced food. The food and kitchen is 100% free of animal ingredients, with the only animal-derived produce onsite being organic dairy milk, which is provided as an option in hot drinks. The team care about the environment and the majority of their menu is organic, sourced locally and handmade.

  • The Nectar House is a pollinator friendly café on Gloucester Road. Perfect for vegan fry ups, sourdough toasties, burgers and salads. 
  • The Bristolian in Montpelier is perfect for vegan brunch. Try their vegan fry up which has scrambled tofu, toast, veggie sausage, baked beans, mushrooms, sesame infused spinach, grilled sunblush tomatoes, crispy fried potatoes and crispy aubergine.

Better Food Co. 

Organic health food store Better Food Co. now has cafes in Wapping Wharf, Gloucester Road, St Werburghs and Clifton. They serve a slap-up organic brunch offering and vegans are very well catered for, with tasty sharing platters and sweet treats as well as fresh organic juices, teas and coffees. Afterwards you can stock up on organic, locally sourced vegan food and household products in the shop.

East Village

This very slick café in Clifton Village creates extremely Instagrammable food and has a fully vegan menu. Go for great cake, breakfasts and lunches, plus a very Instagrammable interior!

  • Eden Café is another vegan café in the heart of Clifton Village. They have locally roasted coffee, a regularly changing menu and seasonal produce. They also do afternoon teas, including vegan prawn cocktail and coronation chickpea sandwiches, with fruit scones, plant-based clotted cream and fruit compote. 

Taste of Napoli

This family-run Italian café in Broadmead is handy for a post-shopping spree refuel. Here you'll find a selection of vegan homemade pizza (with excellent vegan cheese), vegan breakfast pastries (including Cornettos – Italy's answer to a croissant) and cakes. It's also worth knowing they also do Aperol Spritz evenings!

  • Also in Broadmead are Big Bao, whose vegan options include a tasty tofu banh mi, summer rolls and excellent rice bowls.

Sweet Treats

Mrs Potts Chocolate House

If you love chocolate, you have to visit Mrs Potts Chocolate House their café on park street. Mrs Potts have an ever changing selection of deserts, including vegan chocolate chip cookie and cookie sandwiches with dark chocolate ganache filling. 

Swoon

Swoon is an award-winning gelato bar opposite College Green. Make sure to try their indulgent chocolate sorbet, or vegan bacio made with the finest chocolate and Piemonte hazelnuts. 

  • Panuzio’s Kitchen on Cotham Hill also sell great homemade Italian gelato.

The Bristol Loaf 

The Bristol Loaf at Bristol Beacon (with other branches in Redfield and Bedminster) has a delectable selection of plant-based baked goods, including one of their staples, a cardamon and pistachio knot made with nut butter, dipped in cardamon syrup and sprinkled with pistachios. Divine! 

  • Keep an eye out at cafes and delis around the city for vegan goodies from 404 Vegan Bakes (famous for their cherry brownies) and Forest Bakery (go for the vegan almond croissant).
