The best way to get an overview the harbourside is to get on a boat and explore from the water.
Both the Bristol Ferry Boat Company and the Bristol Packet offer tours, some with commentary, which are a great way to orientate yourself and travel from A to B. Alternatively, enjoy a river cruise aboard Tangaroa, Avon River Cruises or The Matthew.
You could start at Brunel's ss Great Britain and spend the morning marvelling at the sheer size and scale of Brunel's masterpiece of engineering, now berthed forever in the dry dock she was built in. Winner of UK Museum of the Year 2006 and Large Visitor Attraction 2007 and many other awards, it's definitely worth a visit.
A little further downriver lies the CREATE Centre where you can wander around the art gallery, displays, recycling exhibition and a demonstration, or vist the Ecohome to find out more about sustainable lifestyles.
From here, you could take a ferry to Explore At-Bristol, a true 21st century science centre combining the best of hands-on activities with the very latest multi-media techniques. there are plenty of mind-boggling exhibits and a planetarium featuring a stunning night sky show. Relax in Millennium Square where you'll find a statue of the Bristol-born actor Cary Grant and many other curious sculptures.
Stroll across Pero's bridge to The Architecture Centre which has free galleries and an amazing shop selling all kinds of quirky gifts and Arnolfini, which showcases the latest in contemporary and performance arts. Watershed has a popular cafe bar and cinema.
