Senior citizens are blooming marvellous at Bristol Zoo

Bristol Zoo Gardens is incredibly proud to have been awarded Bristol in Bloom's 'Best Commercial and Industrial Landscape' award and would like to share its slice of horticultural heaven.

On Thursday 6th September, a number of senior citizens who just missed out on a Bristol on Bloom prize have been invited to the Zoo to enjoy a guided walk around the 12-acre grounds. Eddie Mole, Bristol Zoo's Curator of Horticulture will be sharing his award-winning knowledge and will pass on a wealth of hints and tips to the keen gardeners.

Eddie Mole, said "We are incredibly pleased that the Zoo has been awarded Bristol in Bloom's gold medal in our category, and this is a lovely opportunity to spend time with local people that work individually to ensure that Bristol looks blooming lovely during the spring and summer months. As a city, Bristol won the gold award in the nationwide 'Britain in Bloom' competition last year. We've yet to get this year's results but the more horticulturalists who take an interest in making Bristol attractive, the better our chances".

A small group of green-thumbed senior citizens, whose gardens were commended or highly commended by the Bristol in Bloom judges, will sample our award-winning gardens and hopefully take away a few ideas for next year's competition.

To celebrate our award, all pensioners can visit Bristol Zoo Gardens for half-price throughout September. To qualify for this half-price offer, all they need to do is to visit www.bristolzoo.org.uk and print off a copy of the 'Senior Citizens' Super September Saver' voucher and present it at the main gate on arrival. This fantastic offer runs every day for the whole of September.
