About
Scandinavian design has had a significant impact on the global design industry and is recognised for its timeless aesthetic.
When Ken Stradling went to Scandinavia for the first time in 1961, he became its greatest admirer and enthusiast and worked tirelessly introducing and promoting Scandinavian design to the Bristol Guild shoppers from Bristol and South West. He sold ceramics from Arabia and Rörstrand and glass from Holmegaard and Orrefors.
Today, Scandinavian design is recognised and appreciated for qualities which became international favourites around the globe.
All these became timeless markers of Scandinavian design which were developed and used by home décor manufacturers not only based in Scandinavia but all over the world.
This exhibition celebrates Scandinavian design which, through its simplicity and functionality, became a favourite for mid-century homes in the UK and continues to be an influence on the way we live today.
